Stubborn4Life Apparel in collaboration with BrownPride.com and Galeria Rustica will host an event intended to spotlight talented tattoo artists from throughout the Southern California region. As tattoo art asserts loyalty, community and solidarity among Chicanos, this exhibition aspires to provide a unique opportunity for members of the community to come together and those unfamiliar to view an often overlooked thread in our social fabric. Attendees will be able to as associate with local talent as well as observe and appreciate their work.
The gallery serves as a fitting location for the event as it seeks to focus on the artistic aspects of body art, rather than the trendiness of tattooing. Galeria Rustica, a cultural boutique featuring handicrafts created by artisans from across Mexico . While currently enjoying its en vogue status in popular culture, tattoo art has been a long-standing tradition in the Chicano community and blends well with the backdrop of this gallery�s collection. This urban art form has historically served as a method of expression for cultural understandings of religion, tradition, and the urban experience mediated by the individual perceptions of the artist and owner.
The event will be held at Galeria Rustica on Saturday, April 11th, 2009 at 5pm. The gallery is located at 320 South Thomas Street in the Historic Downtown section of Pomona , California.
