About Polvo Art Studio

Polvo Art Studio (PAS) is an alternative space located in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood and is operated by Polvo (an artist collective originally formed in 1996). Polvo's history consists of organizing artistic and cultural venues with Pilsen-based community spaces. In addition to venues, Polvo generated "zines" focused on arts and culture followed by an online website that initiated an international collective of visual artists, writers, and cultural critics (Polvo maintained an Pilsen gallery space in 1999).

Since February 2003, Polvo has been organizing and curating art exhibits, as well as publishing Polvo, a magazine, and maintaining a website at www.polvo.org. PAS re-opened a galley space to showcase contemporary art in the Pilsen community. In August 2003, PAS has moved into a more intimate space focused to premiere solo and two person including installation projects, new media, and performances.

To continue Polvo's mission to showcase international and local curated exhibits, PAS has launched an annex space called Sol Studio (SS) situated in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood Polvo's PAS and SS spaces do not fit the standard gallery setting but showcase cutting edge emerging and established artists in Chicago.
